Is quality writing really that important?
May 24th, 2007 posted by Chris HenneghanWhen desktop publishing and graphics software went mainstream in the 80s (remember MacPaint?), suddenly everyone could be a designer and create their own ads and brochures. Or so they thought. It took a while to realize that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it. Time proved that software could not replace the creative talent and experience required to produce effective marketing pieces. History seems to be repeating itself in the area of PR writing.
Today there are so many user-friendly editing tools available at the touch of a key. Also, there are so many internet portals, newsfeed services and other interactive media that make it easy for anyone to write content and submit news releases and other messaging. But should they?
Like design, writing is a craft that requires training, practice and discipline. When marketing on the Internet, effective writing engages, motivates, and sells. Since buyers now decide when they want to communcate with a company, its written words are often all it has to influence them. Business marketers are smart to invest in professional communicators that will chose the right ones. Quality writing is more important than ever.
